In swimming there are four main
strokes freestyle (a.k.a front crawl), breast stroke, backstroke, and
butterfly. Freestyle is most people’s fastest stroke but not always everyone’s
best. Even though swimming has to do with who finishes first in the race form
and technique are the keys to success in swimming and that’s usually what amateur
swimmers ignore when racing an opponent and then end up getting disqualified
for petty little things like a false start or a terrible flip turn. Back stroke
and freestyle go hand in hand if you’re really good in freestyle you have a
pretty good chance at being good in backstroke. But still back stroke is not
exactly the same as freestyle for an example as you know backstroke is on your
back and while the kicking and turn are the same as freestyle the pull is
completely different. Butterfly requires a lot of ab movement and a lot of
upper body movement. The whole key to this stroke is to use your abs for the
kicking and you want to swim in one motion bringing your head up first to
breathe, then your arms for the pull, then your legs which are being directed
by your abs for the kick. As you can see the four strokes of swimming are very
different and require different techniques.
